What is the tax rate?
The residential tax rate for 2010/2011 is $1.07 per $100 of assessment.The commercial tax rate for 2010/2011 is $2.25 per $100 of assessment.
Additional to the above rate, is the area fire rate.
The following communities have an area rate for 2010/2011 as follows:
• West Pubnico, Pubnico Head, Lr Argyle: .039/$100 of assessment
• Wedgeport and District: .07/$100 of assessment
• SAR/Eel Brook: .050/$100 of assessment
• East Pubnico: .056/$100 of assessment
• Surette’s Island & District: .034/$100 of assessment

Example of Residential Tax Calculation for 2010/2011:
Assessed Value of Property located in Wedgeport: $75,500
$1.07 x $75,500/100 = $807.85 Residential Taxes
$0.07 x $75,500/100 = $ 52.85 Wedgeport area rate
$860.70 2010/2011 Total Taxes

Online Banking: Through most financial institutions (contact your financial institution for instructions on online banking services.)
Telepay: This method must be set up by the taxpayer at their financial institution.

Do I qualify for the Municipal Exemption?
To qualify you must apply annually and your household income must fall within the limit set by Council. The application process is done in the spring of every year.
Where do I apply for the ‘Property Tax Rebate’?
This is a provincial program. Please call 1-877-296-9338 for details.
Can I appeal my assessment through this office?No. In order to appeal an assessment, please call 1-800-532-8880 or 742-7143.
Dog Tags
Dog Tags can be purchased annually at the Municipal Office in Tusket or at the SPCA, located on the Hardscratch Road in Yarmouth. Their telephone number 742-9767. The cost is $10.00 per dog and $5.00 for spayed/neutered dogs.
R.C.M.P. - Criminal Record Checks
Receipts for criminal record checks can be obtained at the Municipal Office in Tusket. Administration fees for criminal record checks are as follows:
• Adult (employment purposes) = $20.00
• Student (employment purposes) = $5.00
• Community Volunteer = no charge
Tax Sales
Every year the Municipality of Argyle holds a property tax sale that are a minimum of two years in arreas. Properties included in the tax sale are delinquent accounts in either property tax, sewer tax, or other relevant expenses.
