Peter M. Crowell, Municipal Historian & Archivist: Born in Yarmouth, NS and brought up in East Kemptville, Yarmouth County, the son of Russell C. & Lorraine V. (Harding) Crowell. He was educated at Carleton Consolidated School and Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School. He graduated from Yarmouth High, and then attended Dalhousie University for one year, and continued the remainder of his education at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Master of Fine Arts degree from UBC. He is also Certified Genealogist, CG(C). He began work for the Municipality of Argyle in 1985, conducting their Heritage Property Inventory of pre-1914 buildings throughout the municipality. He worked for the municipality on a part-time basis carrying out this work until he was named Municipal Historian & Archivist in 1990, a full-time position. Previous employment had been with Western Counties Regional Library (Yarmouth, NS), Wilson Recordings Library, UBC (Vancouver, BC), Main Library, UBC (Vancouver, BC) and Canada Post (Vancouver, BC & Halifax, NS). Peter Crowell has been active with professional organizations and has served as Education Committee Chair, Secretary, Vice-President and President of the Council of Nova Scotia Archives. He also served a term as the Chair of the provincial Advisory Council on Heritage Property. In 2007 he currently sits as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Public Archives of Nova Scotia. |
