Special Project Programmer

Position Status: Seasonal. Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Due to the nature of Recreation, this person will be required to work some evenings and weekends. Time in lieu shall be given for overtime hours.

Reporting: This position reports to Director of Recreation Services.

Description Overview
This summer is going to be a unique one; one never experienced before. The restrictions placed on us by the Province of Nova Scotia during Covid-19, may require the Special Project Programmer to work from home. The job may be autonomous at times. The Special Project Programmer must possess unique skill sets to be innovative in providing meaningful, online program ideas. These innovative ideas should reflect our targeted approach (i.e.: families, Seniors and youth) as outlined by our own Physical Activity and Recreation Strategic Plans, as well as our Active Transportation Plan. The Special Project Programmer may be required to do other programming in the community, if and when, the restrictions allow to do so. The position will require some flexibility.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To work within the budget for programs.
  2. To be able to work independently as well as valuable member of a recreation team
  3. To be creative and have a thirst for innovation.
  4. To attend weekly virtual (or in person, when permitted) staff meetings.
  5. To document and evaluate the effectiveness of each program.
  6. To be responsible for the promotion of recreation programs.
  7. To be able to effectively and professionally work with small businesses in the Municipality that could offer recreation and leisure services through virtual programming.
  8. To be able to effectively use the recreation online registration system “ActiveNet”.
  9. To ensure that all programs safety and insurance procedures have been addressed prior to implementation.
  10. To be responsible for program equipment and materials such as prizes if necessary.
  11. To have the ability to learn new technologies very quickly and resolve problems.
  12. To Interact in a positive and friendly manner with the public and coworkers.
  13. To have a professional and confident online presence.
  14. To develop, reliable and most importantly, fun online programs.
  15. To be willing to take further training if necessary.
  16. To be able to adapt to a different work environment quickly.
  17. To perform other duties as required.

 


Maintenance Assistant

Deadline to Apply: May 8, 2020 - 4:30PM

Position Status: Seasonal. Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Reporting: This position reports to the Field Maintenance Coordinator.

Description Overview:
The Maintenance Assistant will be working with the Field Maintenance Coordinator to maintain all Municipally owned property as well as the mowing, grooming and trimming of sports fields within the Municipality. Special projects that include repairs and painting at specific locations throughout the Municipality are required. Due to the restrictions placed on us by the Province of Nova Scotia, two people not living in the same household cannot travel together. This will require the student to use his/her personal vehicle to get to the work sites and mileage will be compensated when doing so.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Weekly mowing and trimming of Municipally owned property
  2. Weekly mowing, trimming and grooming of all 3 ballfields within the Municipality of Argyle
  3. Weekly lining of the soccer fields as per the schedule set out by the soccer club (if the soccer season opens)
  4. Aerating, fertilizing and spreading of lime on the baseball fields as per the maintenance plan set out by the Recreation Department.
  5. Grooming, trimming and lining of the track and field for school and public track and field meets (no lining due to school closures for this year)
  6. General upkeep of maintenance equipment
  7. Reporting and documenting any unsafe play areas as per policy
  8. Clean-up of any debris/garbage that is observed at the sports fields and surrounding areas
  9. Painting the newly built fence at the Archives
  10. Painting projects at the East Kempt ball field, the Tusket ball field and the Pubnico ball field
  11. Assisting with the repairs at the PEB soccer field as well as placing netting on the soccer nets, assist with the repairs to the fence surround the track
  12. Painting and cleaning of the two sheds at the maintenance compound
  13. Assist with placing the capping on the fence at the Parc des Jeunes in Wedgeport
  14. Following sanitization procedures as outlined by the Field Maintenance Coordinator when working at specific sites such as the Parc des Jeunes
  15. To perform other duties as required
